the sabbath life

Located in The Heights, a historic neighborhood just north of downtown Tulsa, The Sabbath Life is a refuge of quiet rest and renewal for people who are weary and wish to embrace an unhurried life. They help foster a sustainable spiritual life of contemplation and reflection.

The design began by preserving as much of the existing green infrastructure as possible, including many fruit trees and shrubs. Layers of mostly U.S. native perennials and bulbs were then added to give year-round interest, and additional trees and shrubs to screen unwanted views. One of the core values of The Sabbath Life is finding beauty in simplicity, so many of the plants that were chosen have more subtle colors and textures to provide a more relaxed environment. Paths were preserved to encourage guests to immerse themselves in the garden and interact with the plants using all of their senses.

This is Phase 1 of an ongoing garden transformation. Planting assistance came from a group of dedicated volunteers who support The Sabbath Life.
